The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) just released the Request for Applications (RFA) for the Emergency Triage, Treat, and Transport (ET3) Model.  CMS is not accepting applications at this time, but it released the RFA so ambulance services can start preparing today.  The ET3 Model is a voluntary, five-year program that, for the first time, offers Medicare reimbursement for transports to alternative destinations and for treatment in place.  The payment model is designed to improve the quality of care and lower costs to Medicare by reducing avoidable transports to the hospital ED and potentially reducing avoidable inpatient admissions.  The RFA outlines essential criteria for participation including that applicants must provide information about their current compliance programs to participate.
